Who Is AURORA? The Singer From Norway

AURORA is one of those voices you recognise after a single line. Here is a short guide to the singer behind our designs, from the Aurora Merch crew.

Who is AURORA?

AURORA is Aurora Aksnes, a singer-songwriter from Norway. She was born in Stavanger on 15 June 1996 and grew up in Os, a quiet place in the woods near Bergen. She writes her name in capitals, AURORA, and her music mixes art pop and electropop with Nordic folk.

How did it start?

First singles. She signed in 2014 and put out her first singles, "Awakening" and "Under Stars", that same year.

"Runaway". In 2015 came "Runaway", the lead single of her debut EP, Running with the Wolves. Six years later the song went viral on TikTok and reached No. 22 on the Billboard Global 200. Billie Eilish has said "Runaway" is what made her want to make music.

Where else have I heard her?

If you have seen Disney's Frozen 2, you have heard her: she sings on "Into the Unknown", and she performed it at the Academy Awards in February 2020. At home in Norway she has won four Spellemann Awards.

What is her music about?

Nature, feeling and kindness come up again and again. "The Seed" asks us to protect the planet, and The Gods We Can Touch borrows from Greek myths. That gentle, slightly otherworldly mood is what we try to catch in every design.
